Class Descriptions

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS


Little Dancers 3-5:
This combination class includes ballet, tap, and acrobatic for the beginner students taught                                 
in a nurturing environment making dance a fun experience.  It provides young dancers
with a strong  foundation in dance and movement.  The class introduces students to the basic
elements of dance including locomotor movements (hopping, skipping, jumping), beat and time,
musical  rhythm, simplified ballet steps, limbering exercises, coordination skills, left and right
discrimination and patterns of movement.  Integrated with these physical concepts are the
intellectual concepts of self awareness, creative expression, teamwork, and self confidence.  
Students will also learn the basics of classroom behavior and manners.


Princess Ballet 3-6:
Classes are 60 minutes and focus on Ballet techniques using our favorite storybook princesses!
Themed music and props are incorporated into class as dancers tell their favorite stories through
movement.  Every 4 weeks a new princess is introduced.

Tumble Bugs 3-6:
This class is geared toward the young beginner in Acrobatics.  Tumble Bugs offers a high energy
class that introduces stretching, flexibility, and balance.  Basic tumbling skills include rolls, cartwheels
handstands, back bends and more.

Ballet:
A classical form of dance that provides a strong, solid technical base for all other dance forms.
These very technical classes consists of barre, center floor, and progressions across the floor.  
Ballet classes are offered for ages 6 and up for all levels.  

Jazz:
Fun, upbeat style of dance that stems from ballet and combines today's stylish moves with
energetic popular music.  Our jazz classes take many forms from classical to theatrical to lyrical.
Classes begin with a warm-up followed by technique, across the floor combinations and
choreography.  Classes in jazz are offered for ages 6+ beginner through advanced.

Lyrical:
A highly technical style of dance that fuses ballet and jazz to show the meaning of music.
This style will challenge students to use movement and emotion to tell a story.  Choreography
is often emotional, gripping and delicate all at the same time while allowing spirit to tell where
the dance will go.  

Modern/Contemporary
A style of theatrical dancing that is not a restricted as classical ballet.  It is a freer form of
movement that is expressive of feelings.

Tap:
A truly American style of dance, tap has found a resurgence in the past few years.  Great for
developing rhythmic coordination skills.  Tap classes are offered for ages 5 and up: beginner
through advanced.

Hip Hop:
High energy freestyle dance form that has evolved from break dancing, street dancing, urban,
and jazz into one of the most popular forms today.  Ages 6 and up.

Acrobatics:
Similar to the floor skills of gymnastics, it is a high energy performing art that focuses on strength
stretch, balance and partnering work, (stunting).  Basic tumbling includes back bends, cartwheels
handstands/headstands/elbowstands, chin stands, rolls, walkovers, aerial tricks and more.  Ages
4 and up; beginner through  advanced
Summer Dance Camp
